The Simpsons Arcade Game Makes a Digital Return

November 10, 2011 by Mat Growcott

The Australian Classification Board has slapped a PG on the Simpsons Arcade Game, a game that hasn’t seen release for 20 years. What could it mean?!

I remember going to a holiday park in Wales, Glan y Mor (Cambrian Coast at the time), and running over to their arcade to play The Simpsons on co-op with my family. This was some 16 years ago now and, if you're suddenly feeling very old, you'll be happy to learn that Konami and Backbone Entertainment are bringing The Simpsons Arcade Game back from the vaults. At least, that's if you believe the Australian Classification Board.

Playing as Homer, Marge, Lisa and Bart, with voiceover provided by the original cast, you have to save Maggie after she is kidnapped by Smithers. Using the same engine as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the gameplay is instantly recognisable but with that equally recognisable Simpsons twist.

No word yet on platforms, release dates or prices, but knowing that it exists will probably be enough to get some people excited. And considering the fact that its now been leaked all over the internet, expect Konami to respond sooner rather than later.
