Skyrim Won’t Support Mods on Console

October 17, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

Bethesda has no plans to support mods on the console but they’re ‘looking into it’.

Mods have always been important to the Elder Scrolls. From Morrowind to Oblivion, modifications ranging from “Oscuro’s Oblivion Overhaul” to the less savory “Better Bodies” nude mod (yeah, seriously) have been a crucial part of the Elder Scrolls experience.

Bethesda has once again reiterated its lack of plans to support modifications on either the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3 in Skyrim. Despite the fact that PC gamers will have full access to the modding tools, the studio has no intention of allowing players to bring their modifications over to the console.

“THe mod community have done some really amazing stuff with our previous games, so we’re really excited to give them the tools to allow them to do that again,” said Skyrim art director Mike Carofano in an interview with IncGamers.

“We’d like to bring that same thing to console but it’s not in the works yet, hopefully that’s something we can do in the future,” he said.

“There’s a whole new editor that we’re hoping to release right around the same time as the game. We’re still not sure of the exact day,” when asked about the status of Skyrim’s world creation kit.
