Rumor: PlayStation VR Costs Nearly Twice As Much As Oculus Rift

January 9, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

An Amazon listing outed this price, and subsequently took it out.

Think the Oculus Rift is pricey at $ 600? Apparently you haven’t heard nothing yet.

Amazon has posted a preorder listing for PlayStation VR. They priced it at a staggering $ 1,125.35. Of course, this is nearly twice the price of the Rift, and apparently this does not even include the cost of the PlayStation 4 itself yet.

Amazon has since taken down the price, simply listing it now as currently unavailable. Neither Amazon nor Sony have spoken regarding the issue.

It seems highly unlikely Sony would double the cost of the Rift, since they have demonstrated a willingness to sell hardware below cost of manufacturing to help them gain popularity before. However, it would not be out of bounds for Amazon to have made the guesswork on the actual costs of the PlayStation VR to come up with that ballpark figure. Meaning, the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive may run similar costs for their manufacturers as well.

What do you think is a reasonable price for PlayStation VR? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
