Tribes: Ascend Beta Kicks off November 4

October 10, 2011 by Josh Harmon

Shazbot! Hi Rez Studios is offering three different ways to get in on the action early.

Hi Rez Studios has announced that the closed beta for Tribes: Ascend will begin on November 4.

The beta will showcase four maps, two game modes, three vehicles, and 12 different classes, with support for up to 32 players per match.

As of right now, there are three different ways to get into to the beta. First, you can simply sign up for an account and apply at the game's official website and hope to be selected at random. If you're looking for something more concrete, you can follow the company on Twitter or Facebook, where they'll be giving away codes in weeks before it starts. Finally, Hi Rez will soon begin selling pre-orders, which will guarantee you a slot in the closed beta.

It's rather odd to think about pre-ordering a game that will be free to play, but Hi Rez intends to make it worth your while. If you plop down the cash up front, you'll be given the VIP Starter Kit, which grants you a selection of items from the in-game store at a 33% discount, XP boosts, extra in-game cash, and VIP status once the game launches. There's no word on what exactly that exclusive status entails, but Hi Rez COO Todd Harris told Cyberlink that VIPs will have access to "a more elite set of queues."

Tribes: Ascend, currently a PC exclusive, is scheduled to launch sometime this winter.
