SNK Playmore Pushed Back Into Games By New Pachinko Regulations

January 4, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

The company is also well aware they are inextricably linked to video games.

Wondering what’s up with SNK Playmore’s sudden return to game development? It turns out their about face isn’t that perplexing after all.

In an interview with Famitsu, gaming head Yutaka Noguchi explained that changes in Japan’s pachislot regulations have forced their hand. He also cites the fact that the company’s name is inextricably linked to games to this day.

To quote Noguchi:

Even as of now, we're better known as a game company than a pachislot company. People still talk about us (as a game company) when we say our name.

SNK Playmore was recently acquired by Ledo Millenium, a subsidiary of Leyou Technologies. Neither company has experience in video games, but they seem to have solid multimedia plans for the company and its IP. Of course, the first project we know coming from them now is King of Fighters XIV, for PlayStation 4.

Are you optimistic about the return of SNK Playmore? What other games would you like to see them bring back? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
