The Long Dark’s Story Mode To Launch Spring 2016

December 16, 2015 by Olga Lexell

Hinterland gives up the first official details.

Spring: a time of renewal and deep-winter survival, evidently. Today, Hinterland announced that the first part of The Long Dark’s Story Mode will launch in spring 2016. The rest of Season One will release episodically through the rest of the year, with each episode running at about 2-3 hours. The total season should take about 10-12 hours to complete. (Sandbox Mode, which offers hundreds of hours of open-world gameplay, will be available upon the first episode’s launch as well.)

Players will struggle as pilot Will Mackenzie and Dr. Astrid Greenwood as the two survive the aftermath of the First Flare event. The point of view will alternate between these two. According to Hinterland, 25-30% of Story Mode will cover new areas never before seen in the Sandbox world.

The current $20 pre-release price will increase at launch, so if you’re itching to get your hands on it, now’s probably the best time. While the game has no exact release date yet, it will be available via Steam and Xbox One.
