While the NDP recently revealed that digital sales are on the rise, Shuhei Yoshida, the SCE Worldwide Studios president, doesn't think that the public is ready for a fully-digital console according to Edge.
“We believe, for some consumers, the time is [right], but for other consumers, the time is still not [right],” he states. "We believe the time is still not right to go download-only as a platform."
This belief is most likely what lead Sony to design the PS Vita to embrace both physical and digital distribution models, instead of following in the footsteps of the PSP Go. The average consumer would probably find most PS Vita titles too large to download with their internet connection, not to mention that most people still prefer shopping in brick and mortar stores, interacting with actual people while shopping, as well as the ability to play purchased games without delay.
Nonetheless it seems clear that a digital-only platform is simply a matter of time."The digital model has not yet fully been embraced," admits SCEE's president and CEO, Jim Ryan. The key word in Ryan's statement is yet.
