What Can We Expect Hollow Knight: Silksong Gameplay To Be Like?

June 17, 2022 by Chirag Pattni

Hollow Knight: Silksong is building on the foundations of its predecessor.

The original Hollow Knight is praised by fans for a multitude of reasons. It’s a masterfully designed 2D Metroidvania with thrilling combat and a sublime presentation. At the start, it’s deceptively simple. Players can simply move, jump, and use a few basic attacks. However, as the game progresses, these mechanics open up and allow for a greater freedom of actions that help players go toe to toe with the mighty bosses of the game.

Precise platforming is also a joy, and Hollow Knight ensures that every facet of its gameplay always feels fun to engage with. Hollow Knight: Silksong will be letting players take on the role of the more nimble Hornet. With her increased movement and combat capabilities, players might be wondering, what will the gameplay of Hollow Knight Silksong be like?

What can we expect Hollow Knight: Silksong gameplay to be like?

We’ve seen plenty of gameplay from Hollow Knight: Silksong so far, so we have a rough idea of how the game might play out. Silksong will still take place on a 2D plane of action, but the agile nature of Hornet will allow players greater freedom when it comes to platforming mechanics. Her attacks are also hitting enemies from different angles this time, meaning that aerial combat should play a bigger role. The developer, Team Cherry, has mentioned in interviews it is expanding on the first game and introducing new elements.

This means that fans can expect many brand new NPC questlines, as well as new mechanics tied to activities like hunting and finding treasure. Hornet can heal at any time using a meter of built-up energy just like the Knight. However, a big change is that healing will expend the entire meter for a full recovery, rather than letting players heal themselves a little bit at a time. This should add a new dimension to deciding when to heal. Finally, the new and creative bosses appear to be pushing players to their limits, and we expect that Hornet will unlock new tools to customizable her combat style as the game progresses.
