Fallout 4 Guide: Tab Key Won’t Work After Using Steam Overlay

November 20, 2015 by Holly Green

Here’s a solution for that pesky Pip-Boy problem that occurs when you hit SHIFT + TAB.

Well hello my old friend. This problem should feel familiar to any Fallout fans who already play the games on Steam: a broken Tab key! Specifically, a broken Tab key after using the Steam overlay. This is of course very frustrating because the Tab button is used to pull up the Pip-Boy, which allows you to do pretty much everything in the game. Not only that, if you were already in the Pip-Boy when you intiated the Steam overlay, you will not be able to exit the Pip-Boy to save and restart the game. What to do?

The issue arises when you hit SHIFT + TAB to bring up the overlay and then use “Click here to return to the game”. Instead, you need to hit SHIFT + TAB again to exit. Your Tab key will return to normal and you should be able to use your Pip-Boy without issue.
