Candy Crush: The “Movie” Stars Stephen Colbert And Liam Neeson

November 11, 2015 by Olga Lexell

It’s not real, but it could be.

We have an Angry Birds movie in the pipeline that hits theaters in the spring, but it looks like you can get a sneak peek at the Candy Crush movie today. Last night on The Late Show, Stephen Colbert suggested that Activizion Blizzard shelled out nearly $6 billion to acquire King Digital Entertainment, the company behind Candy Crush, in order to secure the rights to a film version of the game.

So, naturally, Colbert and Liam Neeson created their vision of the movie for our enjoyment. Keep an eye out for Liam Neeson’s hilarious quip at 4:27.

It’s a pretty solid critique of popular mobile games and the in-app purchases they rely on. How great would it be if this digital sketch actually gave Activision Blizzard an idea? It wouldn’t be too surprising, given that Activision Blizzard has already hinted about a potential future Call of Duty movie now that they’re diving into the film and TV world.

“The combined revenues and profits solidify our position as the largest, most profitable standalone company in interactive entertainment,” said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. What that kind of financial security and an eye towards investing new IP, I’m sure we’ll be seeing a Candy Crush movie in the near future.
