Why Bonnie Bennett Never Returned To The Vampire Diaries Franchise

June 13, 2022 by Faith Lane

Bonnie Bennett will not be returning to The Vampire Diaries.

Discussion around The Vampire Diaries Universe has been at an all-time high after the announcement of the cancellation of Legacies, the spin-off that takes place after the events of The Originals. The very last episode of Legacies season 4 that will end the franchise is scheduled to air on June 16th. With the franchise of 13 years coming to a close, there’s been a lot of input from both fans and past stars on the show. This includes Kat Graham, who recently reflected and discussed her time in the Vampire Diaries universe and how her refusing to return as Bonnie Bennett was for the best.

Kat Graham played Bonnie Bennett in The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons. Her character in the show went through so much and experienced a ton of growth over the span of the show. Graham spoke with ET about a possible return to the franchise, but right now, the actress expressed how she wants to focus on music. While grateful for her time and experience on The CW series, she has other work to do now. This now puts any hope of Bonnie returning before the franchise ends to rest:

“I feel like I gave that show, and hopefully, the fans that watch it, eight years of my life and poured so much into it and sacrificed a lot of time with my family, even time doing work with the UN refugee agency, doing my activism – so much of that has to get put on hold when you’re on a twenty-two episode series for eight years. So, as grateful, and I mean grateful, because I grew from that show, I became who I really am in my twenties from that show, for me, yeah, the door is closed.”

It is disappointing to know that Kat Graham’s Bonnie Bennett will not be returning before Legacies ends. It’s been five years now since The Vampire Diaries ended, with most fans finding closure. Legacies just wouldn’t be able to provide a good place for Bonnie to return.

It is nice to see that Graham keeps in touch with her former co-stars nevertheless. Last year, she and Nina Dobrev reunited for a picture which you can find on Nina’s social media. The picture of the two immediately had fans wanting a The Vampire Diaries revival, but Graham responded by saying that while she and Dobrev will always be friends, neither was interested in a return to the series.

This is the final week of the franchise before the finale of Legacies airs on June 16th. It is unknown how the show and franchise will end for now, other than the fact that Klaus will be returning one last time.
