Metroid: The Sky Calls is an ambitious live action fan film which reimagines the Metroid series as a '70s sci-fi movie.
Lasting 11 minutes, the movie stars gaming presenter Jessica Chobot as Samus Aran. The Sky Calls was directed by Sam Balcomb and created by Rainfall Films, a three man production company he founded in the US.
"The classic Nintendo franchise, Metroid, envisioned through the lens of '60s-70s science fiction cinema such as 2001, Alien, and Solaris: this was the concept for Rainfall's most recent production," Rainfall commented in the video's description.
"Instead of using a modern approach, a style was developed more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space."
The Nintendo series was last seen in 2010 when Metroid: Other M was released, while controversial spin-off Federation Force is bound for the 3DS next year.
Rainfall Films was also responsible for IGN's 2008 April Fool's Day joke, the renowned Legend of Zelda trailer. You can watch The Sky Calls below.
