Prison Architect Devs Announce Next Game

June 8, 2022 by John McDonald

If it’s half as good, it’ll be great.

The Prison Architect devs have announced they have been working on a brand-new title and plan to release it towards the end of the year. Introversion Software was the brains behind the highly acclaimed Prison Architect, and this new title is called The Last Starship.

As expected, this will be a similar type of simulation game to the first, but obviously set in a spaceship instead of a prison. So, you can probably understand that the concept of this game will be to construct a spaceship so you can go on adventures across several procedurally generated star systems – a little bit more scope than just one prison.

Before you get excited, the Prison Architect devs have made it clear that the game is nowhere near being completed yet, but to give fans an inkling of what to expect, they have released a fairly detailed video that shows off some current gameplay. You can check out the video below.

More about the game anyway: players will be given a simple ship (basically a shell of a ship) that they can experiment with by adding numerous extras such as engines, reactors, and air supplies (you’re going to need those), all of these are fuelled by various resources that you find on your travels.

Using an FTL drive on the ship, you’ll be able to travel through space at breakneck speeds, visiting a whole host of far away star systems. From there, players can obtain a trade board that allows them to buy and sell different pieces of hardware, various equipment, and more importantly, fuel. You also have the ability to accept contracts for deliveries, mining jobs, and rescue missions.

The Prison Architect devs are planning to release the game on Early Access, which follows the trend set by the previous game. However, it will still be some time before you can play this game, so you’ll just have to make do with the gameplay footage above.
