Nintendo Profits Rally In Q2 2015, Bestsellers Are Splatoon And Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer

October 28, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Believe it or not, the hugely popular Super Mario Maker was overtaken by the spinoff home decoration game.

Nintendo continues to rally, with solid performance for Q2 2015, and a remarkable increase in income and profits year on year.

Nintendo had a net income of 3.2 billion yen ($27 million) in the last three months ending September, and an operating profit of 7.8 billion yen. They’re on their way meeting projected sales targets, with hopes of selling 3.4 million Wii U consoles, after selling 1.2 million in the first half. On the other hand, the company expects 3DS unit sales to drop, all the way until March 2016. Perhaps this is partly an acknowledgement their own 3DS sales will be impacted by their games with DeNA.

The Wii U sold .72 million for the quarter and 1.19 million for the past six months. The 3DS sold 1.27 million for the quarter, and 2.28 million for during the past six months.

For their high performing titles, it may surprise you to learn that Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer has sneaked ahead of the 3DS pack with 2.02 million units sold. Over one million units were sold in Japan. Nintendo’s report alludes to a third party title that sold over one million units, and it’s highly likely that this is in reference to the Western release of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

Splatoon sold 2.42 million units worldwide, with 1.56 million units sold outside japan, and Super Mario Maker sold 1.88 million units worldwide.
