Tri Force Heroes Single Player Is Like A Puzzle Mode, Added In Thanks To Aonuma

October 25, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Director Hiromasa Shikata refers to it as a different kind of challenge from coop multiplayer.

Do you have concerns or questions about The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes’ single player mode? Director Hiromasa Shikata came up on a Miiting Miiverse interview to address some of these questions.

It turns out, as Shikata explained, that Tri Force Heroes was not supposed to have single player at all. This was added in at the behest of The Legend of Zelda lead developer Eiji Aonuma.

For single player, your Link can play with doppels, dolls that look just like and play like you. You can switch around between Link and the doppels. While Shikata originally approached the doppels as a bonus, he found in testing that it made the game more like a puzzle game.

Tri Force Heroes has both Local Play and Download Play, meaning you can play the game with friends whether only one person has a copy or all three of you do. You will even be able to play through the same levels. The difference is in the costumes and bonuses that will be available to you. The developers hope, once you’ve played the game in Download Play, the desire to get better costumes and bonuses will compel you to buy your copy.

Finally, Online Play is there for 3DS owners who don’t have many other folks around them with other 3DSes to play with. Between all these options, Nintendo covered all the bases for different scenarios with Tri Force Heroes.

Did you pick up Tri Force Heroes? Which of these ways to play are you using, and are you enjoying it? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
