Shovel Knight Retail Update: Xbox One Version Cancelled, Price And Release Date Changes, And More

October 9, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

No word on when the amiibo and Vita version are coming.

Yacht Club has announced a litany of changes to the pending retail release of Shovel Knight.  The biggest surprise of it all: the Xbox One version has been cancelled.

Yacht Club seems to mirror Activision’s statement on Call of Duty Black Ops 3 being pulled from preorder digitally. They explain this stems from Microsoft’s policies, and they cannot change anything about it. This time, Yacht Club can’t honor preorders for this version. While they say they will still try to make it happen, they are now pointing Xbox One owners to buy it digitally.

Also having to wait a little longer is the Vita version. If Yacht Club manages to make it happen, it won’t be in time for this holiday, but they are working it out with Sony.

Now, for all remaining platforms, namely, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, Wii U, and 3DS, they have moved the release date to November 3 in North America and October 30 in Europe, and raised the price to $ 24.99.

The price change unfortunately stems from real life issues with retail shelving, but the good side is they are raising the value of the physical version. Yacht Club managed to squeeze in all of Plague of Shadows into the disc, and will also bundle it with a digital download copy of the soundtrack.

Finally, there is a non-announcement for the Shovel Knight amiibo, as they still haven’t finalized release details. Yacht Club can’t even confirm if they will allow for preorders, but they are considering it. Give the high potential demand, and the possibility this will run out quickly, it may be for the best.
