Death Stranding 2 In Development, Says Norman Reedus

May 20, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

According to a recent interview with actor Norman Reedus, the second instalment of Death Stranding is currently underway. As reported in Gamespot, Reedus let slip in conversation with Leo Edit that he’s just recently started work on the sequel to 2019’s Death Stranding, a game that proved as popular as it was divisive.

When asked about his current workload in the Leo Edit interview, Reedus commented that he was currently filming for Death Stranding, clarifying that “we just started the second one.” This sounds pretty definitive given that there’s been no official word on a Death Stranding sequel, but it’ll certainly be encouraging new to those who’ve been hoping for a second outing with Reedus’ character Sam Porter Bridges.

The actor also gave some insight into how his role in Death Stranding came about, elaborating on the length of time it actually took to complete all of the motion capture scenes needed for the game.

Guillermo Del Toro, who gave me my first movie, called me up and said, “Hey, there’s a guy named Hideo Kojima, he’s gonna call you, just say yes.” And I go, “What do you mean just say yes?” He goes, “Stop being an asshole, just say yes.” Then I was in San Diego and Hideo came with a big group of people, he’s from Tokyo, and he showed me what he was working on on a game called Silent Hill. I was blown away by what he was showing me, and I was like, “Yes, let’s do this.” It’s not Ms. Pacman; it’s so realistic, it’s so futuristic, it’s so complicated and beautiful, and I was completely blown away. It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the MoCap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.

With that in mind, fans should probably not get too excited just yet about Death Stranding 2, as it’ll obviously be a couple of years before we hear anything about a release if they’re just starting work on it now. Additionally, with no official word on this from Kojima Productions, we may have to wait and see if Reedus’ accidental reveal of Death Stranding 2 is something players can bank on.
