Does Doctor Strange Sequel Setup Return Of Dormammu?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gave fans a LOT to think about (for better and for worse) and one of the things they’re definitely pondering is that of “what comes next?” To answer that, we need to look at the post-credits sequence. No…not the Bruce Campbell one, the first one, with Charlize Theron. Because her arrival in the MCU is not just awesome (because she’s awesome) but because of what her character both represents, and who they are tied to…Dormammu.

If you didn’t know, Charlize Theron is playing the role of Clea, a powerful sorceress who just so happens to be one of the many love interests in the Doctor Strange comics. Also, currently in the comics, she’s the Sorcerer Supreme! Neat, huh?

Anyway, in her post-credits sequence, she tells Doctor Strange that his actions have caused an Incursion event (basically, two realities clashing into one another) and they need to stop it. Strange accepts and they go into a portal. But, did you notice where that portal led to?

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that it wasn’t just any reality or realm they were going to…it was the Dark Dimension. Yes, the Dark Dimension where we met Dormammu in the first Doctor Strange movie. This entity is one of the most powerful beings in all of Marvel Comics, and if you recall, Doctor Strange only “beat him” in the first movie because he “made a bargain” after setting a trap with the Time Stone…which is now destroyed.

It also should be noted that Clea…is Dormammu’s niece…yeah, believe it. So that will no doubt complicate things when the third Doctor Strange movie arrives.

Many have speculated that Dormammu could be one of the true big bads of Phase 4 outside of Kang, and if this teaser goes where we think it could go…that might just happen.
