Star Wars Battlefront’s Drop Zone Mode Detailed

September 9, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

It’s like King of the Hill with a twist.

EA and DICE have released details about Star Wars Battlefront's King of the Hill mode called Drop Zone.

In Drop Zone, the two teams of players must attempt to gain control over drop pods, which fall throughout the map. The objective centers on taking control of each of them before the enemy team seizes them.

The match plays out in 8-versus-8, with Rebel and Empire teams fighting to capture and control possession of these objectives.

"Drop Zone is all about action and quick thinking, forcing Rebels and Imperial troops to always be on their feet. Though captured pods need to be defended, static players standing in a cluster too close to their pod always run the risk of being hit by explosives or a well-placed Orbital Strike."

The team that manages to capture five pods or gain control of the majority in the 10-minute duration in which each match takes place wins.

DICE states that they have also implemented measures to prevent stalemates from happening.

"If a pod is constantly changing possession with no team able to defend it long enough to claim it, another pod will be sent down…then, there would be two pods that the teams have to gain control over."

Players who stick around each pod will be able to get their hands on powerups contained within. However, waiting for a pod to open up might not be the best move, as going for a fresh drop pod and preventing it from falling into enemy hands might be a better thing to do. It all depends on the situation.

Star Wars Battlefront will be out on November 17 for the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
