Deus Ex Devs Talk Changes Coming In Mankind Divided

September 2, 2015 by Ian Boudreau

Mankind Divided’s gameplay director talks about making changes to the formula established in Human Revolution

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's gameplay director Patrick Fortier recently discussed some upcoming features in the game in an interview with NDTV Gadgets.

One of the big reveals in the second part of the interview was that Mankind Divided will have more content than you can experience in a single playthrough. Fortier said they've consciously planned for the fact that not all players will see 100 percent of a level. "We build more content as, depending on the play style, they might see different things," he said.

Mankind Divided will also be taking a more morally agnostic approach to rewards than Human Revolution did. Human Revolution granted players more experience and access to more perks for Adam Jensen's cybernetic enhancements when they played stealthily. Fortier said Mankind Divided will attempt to dole out rewards more equally, making a run-and-gun style more tenable even into the late game.

"I think that sent the wrong message, in Human Revolution, because you got experience points from stealth and not combat," he said. "I don't think the team realized it was sending that message back in the day. We've been careful of that."

Fortier described the team's approach in Mankind Divided as "equal opportunity" gameplay.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is set to launch on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC Feb. 23 next year.
