Concept Art Depicts Fallout 4 as an Isometric Game

September 2, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

From the developer and artist behind STASIS.

Developer and artist of the recently released isometric, point-and-click, horror game STASIS Chris Bischoff has released two mock-ups of what Fallout 4 would look like if it was presented as an isometric, 2D game, rather than the first-person shooter the franchise became with the release of Fallout 3 in 2008.

The images use the setting and backgrounds found in the Fallout 4 announcement trailer, such as the gas station seen in the first screenshot below, but present those locals from an isometric perspective. The first image shows a mutant attempting to trade “human meat” with a human being. The human being responds in kind, “Oooooh…awkward.” The second image has the player character quoting Scarface while it mows down a scorpion-like enemy with a mini-gun.

Unbeknownst to some younger fans of the Fallout series, Fallout 1 & 2 were not first-person shooters, but isometric role-playing games, instead. As a video game artist that specializes in isometric games, Bischoff wanted to pay homage to the once-isometric video game series.

STASIS is available now on Steam and Fallout 4 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on Nov. 10.
