How Dark Souls 3 Will Change the Franchise

Dark Souls 3 will be a turning point for the franchise, say its developers.

The creator of the series, Hidetaka Miyazaki, said that the upcoming Dark Souls 3 by From Software will be a complete turning point for the company's games, which also includes Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. 

“Dark Souls is my life’s work. Everything I came up with for Dark Souls 3 is based on my personal preferences,” Miyazaki said to Gamespot.

Dark Souls 2 was directed by someone else, and fans remarked that it wasn't as good as the first game because it was simply more of the same and offered little in the way of innovation. 

“However, Dark Souls 3 is also actually the turning point for the franchise,” he said.

When asked whether the studio would consider making sci-fi or mech games with the Souls framework applied, Miyazaki declined to confirm or deny, but said that any future games would have his personal touch. 

Miyazaki, who is the president of From Software, says his team is currently developing several new projects. He says that he personally want to work on something new, and that he's happy people are interested in that. 

Based on his comments, Dark Souls 3 will define the framework of any future titles in development at the studio.

The game comes out on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 in early 2016.
