Wait, Kirby Just Won A Grammy?

April 4, 2022 by Todd Black

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Ok, don’t freak out, don’t freak out!!! But yes, if you want to be technical about things, Kirby is now an award-winning game franchise in the sense that last night at the Grammys, it got an award…kind of. We’ll explain. You see, there was a song from the Kirby game “Kirby’s Super Star” called “Meta Knight’s Revenge”. That song was taken by two people named Charlie Rosen and Jake Silverman and given a special arrangement recently and THAT song won ” Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella” via their 8-Bit Big Band performance of it. So technically they got a Grammy for a Kirby song…but yeah, Kirby is a Grammy winner.

“HOLY SHIT WE WON THE GRAMMY!!LONG LIVE VIDEO GAME MUSIC!!” shared Rosen over on Twitter following the win. “Thanks to everybody who’s ever listened to [The 8-Bit Big Band], ALL of artists who have contributed their time/talent and of course HUGE thanks to my co-arranger the one and only [Button Masher]!! MUCH LOVE!”

Now yes, that does mean that Nintendo isn’t the one who got the award, but it’s still a pretty cool thing, and it brings more attention to the franchise which is definitely what Nintendo wants.

Not the least of which is that they’ve got Kirby and the Forgotten Land out right now and it’s doing really well based on early sales numbers. So if nothing else, it might land them some extra sales on that title.

Kirby as a whole is a franchise that is VERY special, it’s been around since nearly the beginning of Nintendo (it started on the Game Boy) and has lasted for decades. The “pink puffball” is one of the most well-known Nintendo characters and has been featured in video games, his own anime, and beyond.

Just don’t ask Kirby himself to actually sing…it doesn’t end well.
