Battlefield 2042 Map Changes Leave Players Disappointed

April 1, 2022 by Carley Garcia

At least they’re trying. That has to count for something. Right, guys? Right?

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve written something negative about Battlefield 2042, I could not only retire, but afford to buy that dream house in Sonoma I’ve always wanted. Last month, EA Dice announced that it would be dedicating several updates to streamlining and improving 2042‘s multiplayer maps. In a new blog post, the devs are finally letting players know more about the upcoming changes, which will apparently overhaul the Traversal and Kaleidoscope maps.

The flag and spawn points on both the Traversal and Kaleidoscope maps will be moved closer together to reduce travel time, and vehicle distribution will be tweaked so players won’t need to constantly traverse the terrain on foot. Open spaces, Flags, and Objectives will see the addition of new cover, which DICE says should help resolve some of the major issues highlighted by the Battlefield community since the game’s release.

Additional changes coming to the game include environmental tweaks and reductions to the cooldown and availability of vehicles. The first batch of map changes, including alterations being made to vehicles, will come in the game’s next update. The remaining larger changes won’t be coming until Season 1, which is currently expected to release in June or July.

Players aren’t thrilled with the new announcements, however. Heading over to the Battlefield 2042 subreddit shows that most have surrendered any hope of the game becoming playable, with gamers lamenting how long it’s taken for DICE to make these changes in the first place.

Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19, 2021, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Earlier this month, the game made news in the worst way–by having fewer players than Battlefield 1, 4, and 5 on Steam. The game currently sits at under 2 percent of its original peak player base of 105,297. Despite all of this, EA DICE has already started pre-production on the next Battlefield title.
