Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Gamescom Trailer Revealed

August 5, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

This trailer shows off someone we knew was going to be in the game.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s Gamescom trailer has been revealed, pulling the curtain on some final mysteries.

This trailer shows off someone we knew was going to be in the game for the 1st time: Psycho Mantis, visibly younger and with some wavy hair. Mantis is out there in North Kabul, capable of floating and seemingly working with Skullface.

The trailer also gives us a better idea of the game’s narrative thrust; after some prior missions turn out badly, Snake has to step up and enter Kabul solo. Some parts of the trailer indicate that Snake does have some men under him, but they simply aren’t prepared for the threat Skullface and his forces represents.

Lastly, as if the image of Snake and Quiet drenched in blood wasn’t perplexing enough, we have a new scene that defies description. A mysterious growth in Snake’s forehead turns into a sharp horn. Of course, it looks comical, but one wonders if there is a sinister meaning hiding behind it.

There won’t be that many mysteries for much longer. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows. Metal Gear Online will then release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on October 6 and then on Windows on January 2016.
