Elden Ring Could Have Had Own Bestiary

March 29, 2022 by John McDonald

For all your beastly needs.

Some interesting news has popped up regarding the hottest game in the world right now, it involves the rumor about an Elden Ring bestiary. Well, what could have been one? New files have emerged that allude to a bestiary once being included in the game’s features before the idea was eventually omitted from the final product.

The files that are being talked about were found by a Twitter user who wrote, “Looking through Elden Ring’s files and I came across a few icons that would suggest a bestiary was planned at some point”. It turns out that this person works for FromSoftware, which is how they got their hands on these files, and his assumptions look likely to be right on the money as well.

The Twitter user went on to say, “There are 128 icons showing different NPCs, each of the NPCs shown has two icons, one greyed out and another one filled in, which could represent found and not found”. Take a look at the images below and you can judge for yourself.

Looking through the game files I came across a few icons making me believe that a bestiary was planned at some point.

An in-game bestiary would have been a welcomed addition to Elden Ring because the game has a seemingly endless list of monsters and fauna for players to investigate. One of the cornerstones for The Witcher III was its bestiary; the key to helping Geralt slay monsters and beasts of all shapes and sizes, and a game like Elden Ring could have benefitted massively from its own beastly encyclopedia.

The Twitter user also mentioned that among these 128 icons were 64 that weren’t even recognizable, which possibly alludes to the fact that more content was cut from the final product as well. Elden Ring really has taken the world by storm, we all thought we knew everything that the game had to offer, but it turns out there were secrets embedded deep in the original plans. Wonder what other little additions could have been added to Elden Ring?
