Ubisoft’s Plans For Reboots, Sequels, and More?

March 22, 2022 by John McDonald

Ubisoft starting to get really busy

You might be interested to know about a rumor floating around recently involving Ubisoft’s plans to create some new (but familiar) projects, which could begin to pick up pace and any time now. What are these projects you ask though? Well, they are supposedly working hard on a new Prince of Persia game as well as a sequel to Immortals: Fenyx Rising, which only came out in 2020.

The news about Ubisoft’s plans doesn’t come from the company themselves but from well-renowned journalist Tom Henderson who claims to have some insider information about the subject. It is already known that Ubisoft is in the middle of certain productions, none more so than Assassin’s Creed Rift (another Assassin’s Creed game, that’s right), which is supposed to be a stopgap between Valhalla and the upcoming Infinity.

This new Prince of Persia game that has been mentioned seems to be a kind of reboot and has nothing to do with the upcoming Sands of Time remake that they are also working on. The rumors are that it will take inspiration from the Ori series of games that were created by Moon Studios, incorporating the franchise’s 2.5D template for its structure as well. How those loyal fans have longed for a reboot of the famed franchise, a series that was ahead of its time, and some may say led to the successes of Assassin’s Creed.

Henderson also claims that the Immortals: Fenyx Rising sequel is in pre-production, and the developers are recruiting a number of individuals for the game. You might be thinking, why do we need a sequel two years after the game came out? That does seem to be the norm for video game developers these days; to rehash old successful projects to make new successful projects, seems pretty straightforward. Now, Ubisoft hasn’t mentioned anything about these projects, but Mr. Henderson is quite the reliable source and always has his ear to the ground for rumors such as this.
