Hogwarts Legacy is something that has been teased for a long time, but now, Portkey Games has been slowly peeling back the looks and the layers to the game so that those who might be playing it soon will understand what’s going on in it. The title won’t put you in the role of Harry Potter or his friends, but as a brand new student in Hogwarts and have you follow your own path to magic. And as some have noted in the recent State of Play trailer, that includes being able to do dark magic.
In the Harry Potter series, magic overall had very little distinction between “good and bad’ at times because you could do harm with most spells if you aimed them right. But, as we would learn, there were curses and spells that were deemed “unforgivable”. One’s that would put people through pain, allow someone to control another’s mind and actions, and of course, kill them on the spot.
At the end of the State of Play Trailer, they showed the use of the Killing Curse, and as a result of that (plus some story teases from the game’s website), that means you could very much become a Dark Wizard…should you decide to go down that path.
The story did note that the player will have to make key choices over time, and this might just be one of them. Whether you use the darkest of arts, or whether you follow the path of light like so many before you.
This would give a more authentic experience to the game as a whole, because as Harry Potter fans know, not all witches and wizards are good. So whether you become one that needs to be hunted, or the one who seeks to stop the darkness…is up to you.
