Submerged Has No Combat, And It’s Pretty Refreshing

July 24, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

With a beautiful open world and a soothing soundtrack, why would you want to rush through this?

A video game without fighting seems very out of place in today’s games market, but that’s exactly what Submerged is. Australian studio Uppercut Games has been working on this project for a while, and they’re finally releasing it next month.

Players will take on the role of Miku, a girl who appears to be the only one left to care for her ailing brother. Armed with a telescope and a tiny fishing boat, she must explore a mysterious flooded city in search of resources that may be useful to her brother. Expect to spend a good deal of time climbing decrepit buildings, if not figuring out how to climb them, as some of the climb-able objects look fairly discreet.

The game is meant to be a meditative experience, and ideally would be played slowly. If you’re looking to spend some time marveling at in-game scenery, then Submerged is for you. It’s a refreshing project developed by folks who played a part in bringing Bioshock to life, so you know there’s a good deal of experience that went into this game.

Submerged is scheduled to launch on August 4 via Steam.
