Hearthstone Expands With The Grand Tournament In August

July 22, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Hearthstone grows.

Hearthstone is expanding with the release of The Grand Tournament next month. The expansion pack is unlike any previous add-on to the online card game and sees the addition of 132 new cards.

Players will be able to pre-purchase The Grand Tournament card packs starting next week in special 50-pack bundles on any platform for $49.99. You will only be able to purchase one bundle per account. Doing so will reward you with a new limited edition card back that will not be available at any other time.

In The Grand Tournament, Hearthstone duelists will adventure to the frozen continent of Northrend, where heroes of the Argent Crusade once coaxed fighters from all over the land to battle against the Lich King's forces of the undead. With the Lich King now dead, the competitive atmosphere is a lot more playful and a bit warmer than it used to be.

In addition to the 132 new cards, some of the minions you can summon into battle will possess a new keyword—Inspire. It's a special ability that can only be activated by using the Hero's Power. As such, Hero Powers will now play an even bigger role in strategy, as they can be used to inspire minions to reach their full potential in battle by calling reinforcements, restoring health, and more.

The expansion will be out this August for the PC, Mac, Windows, iOS and Android tablets.
