Devil’s Third Trailer Showcases Gameplay, Multiplayer, Action Movie Story Campaign

July 22, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It’s actually a good showing for Valhalla’s first game.

Nintendo Co Ltd have shared a new trailer for Devil’s Third, and it’s actually a good showing for Valhalla’s first game.

The trailer’s first half focuses on its story campaign, and the second on multiplayer. The story campaign revels in its action movie aesthetic, from presentation and gung-ho premise, to the wild and crazy action sequences, which really do resemble a low budget 80s film in ‘maturity’ and violence. Keep an eye out for one of the female bosses, using a move reminiscent of Itagaki’s former pet project, Dead or Alive.

The second half focuses on the multiplayer aspect, and it looks like this showcases what the Wii U version and not the PC version is going to have. All the promised content, including the crazy variety of items, weapons, factions, and armor, are coming to the Wii U version, and the faction system promises to distinguish it from the annualized Call of Dutys and Battlefields.

Both trailers serve as a showcase of the gameplay, something Itagaki felt early previewers were not doing justice to. So, just to give you an idea of what to expect:

There is a sliding mechanic reminiscent ofVanquish, and it seems to be useful in many situations. Ivan is shown sliding his way up a flight of stairs. The multiplayer portion shows players sliding across an empty pool and a rooftop.

Ivan has what seems to be a powered up mechanic as well, as his tattoos light up as he slices up an enemy. This looks like one of those power ups you have to earn by killing a certain number of enemies, and it would be interesting if you could use it in multiplayer as well.

Devil’s Third is releasing in Wii U in the US on Q4 and Europe on August 29. There will also be a PC multiplayer only free-to-play version releasing in September.
