Neverwinter, the free-to-play action MMORPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe, is set to receive its seventh expansion pack.
Titled Neverwinter: Strongholds, the new expansion introduces the largest playable map ever released for the game and focuses on players banding together to take back a stronghold that's been overrun by the wild.
In its initial release, the expansion will offer player-versus-environment gameplay in order to allow player guilds to build their strongholds before going into all-out warfare against other players in large-scale PVP battles with content that's set to launch in September this year.
According to the press release, the gameplay in Strongholds is reminiscent of early D&D gameplay, empowering guilds to reclaim a keep and its surrounding areas from monsters. Once these lands are cleared, guilds will construct defenses both in and around their newly acquired stronghold using structures like archer towers and siege structures. Once guilds have secured their location, they'll partake in full-scale battles along the ranges of the Sword Coast.
