Great news for Apex Legends fans who’ve been wanting to try out the game on mobile. Respawn Entertainment and EA have finally announced that Apex Legends Mobile will be starting the limited regional launch of the game from today. This was after the planned release date of the game had to be delayed, but now things seem to be back on track. However, only those in the 10 listed eligible countries will be able to access the game, for the time being at least.
As part of the development process, the limited regional launch is planned to test out the game’s backend infrastructure, matchmaking and progression systems, in-game commerce and regional live operations capabilities. The focus will be on gathering player feedback on the Ranked system, game modes, monetization features and overall experience. This is presumably before a larger-scale rollout of the full game for the rest of the world.
The 10 currently eligible countries who can access Apex Legends Mobile as part of the limited regional launch are:
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Singapore
- Malaysia
- Philippines
- Indonesia
- Mexico
- Peru
- Argentina
- Colombia
Apex Legends Mobile is a standalone experience, although it is set in the same game universe as Apex Legends. As the full game isn’t yet release-ready, the developers are hoping for players to test the waters with a range of special content for players in the regions eligible for launch. This includes access to Battle Royale on the classic World’s Edge Map, Team DeathMatch, Mini Battle Royale, 3v3 Arenas and taking part in Ranked matches of Battle Royale.
Players will also be able to play as characters from a somewhat smaller selection of Legends. Bloodhound, Gibraltar, Lifeline, Wraith, Bangalore, Octane, Mirage, Pathfinder and Caustic (unlockable at Battle Pass tier 25) will all be available in Apex Legends Mobile.
EA have said that they want their mobile version of Apex to be “worth the wait”, so it looks like fans in the rest of the world will have to wait a little longer before being able to jump into battle on their devices. If you are in one of the currently eligible regions, you can download Apex Legends Mobile now from the Apple App Store and on the Google Play Store.
