Nintendo Switch Online Adds ‘Missions and Rewards’ System

March 1, 2022 by Dani Cook

The new system is similar to Xbox Game Pass Quests.

Nintendo has launched a new update for Nintendo Switch Online that introduces a ‘Missions and Rewards’ system. The update allows players to earn Platinum Points by playing games. While the new system isn’t exactly the same as earning trophies or achievements on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, it is similar to the Xbox Game Pass Quests system.

The Missions and Reward system is only available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and has players complete various tasks such as “play software that supports online play”, “back up save data”, “play NES”, and more. Platinum Points is the currency that the My Nintendo Store has used for several years now. Fans who complete enough objectives will be able to use their points to buy physical items on the online shop such as posters and keychains.

Nintendo also revealed a variety of new Nintendo Switch Online exclusive icons and backgrounds for players to customize their experience. They are only accessible through the Missions and Rewards system, using Platinum Points. The company has also promised the icons and backgrounds will be updated weekly and be tied to special events. For reference, playing one online game a week will earn players 30 Platinum Points, and each icon costs 10 points. Take a looks at some of the icons below.

Icons may be fairly easy to save up for, but the physical items will take most gamers a little longer. For instance, a Pokémon Legends: Arceus Cable Holder costs 400 points. Earning points can easily be done by actions such as playing an online game, backing up save data, playing an NES title, or a Game Trials software. Doing these can earn fans 200 points per week.
