Star Citizen’s New Genesis Starliner Is A Thing Of Beauty

July 1, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

Star Citizen’s offering players a chance to own the fancy starliner ahead of everyone else.

Ever wanted to buy your own ship? For just $400, you can add the Genesis Starliner to your fleet. Now, if only we could get away with this in real life.

The Genesis Starliner is a new addition to Star Citizen’s roster of ships, and it is a thing of beauty. This modular, fuel-efficient starliner is meant for duration travel, and the version that is for sale falls under the mid-range category. It is built to carry up to 40 passengers and 8 crew members. It also comes equipped with two remote-operated turrets for self-defense.

This starliner is fairly versatile. It’s modifiable, with potential variants ranging from luxury, mid-range, and essential configurations. The configurations determine the onboard amenities as well as the number of passengers it can take, but this ship is meant to pay for itself in the long run. Even the United Empire of Earth sees the benefits of having this ship in their fleet; they’ve got the Starlifter for troop transport, the Starhunter for patrol hunter-killer, and the Starseeker as the SWACS/C&C platform.

A mildly immersive narrative is up on the Roberts Space Industries website, if you’d like to get to know more about the Genesis Starliner. Click on all the things, just for kicks. We suggest you also keep your speakers on, it adds a nice little touch to the experience. We promise there aren’t any jumpscares.

The Genesis Starliner is being made available from now thru July 6th as a pledge ship, meant to help fund Star Citizen’s development. It is not a mandatory ship in order to start the game, but rather a nice little add-on  to get your fleet looking all fancy. According to the website:

“The Genesis starliner is being offered for the first time as a limited concept sale. This means that the ships design meets our specifications, but it is not yet ready to display in your Hangar or to fight in Arena Commander. The sale includes Lifetime Insurance on the ship hull and a pair of decorative items for your Hangar. A future patch will add a Genesis poster and then once the in-game models are finished you will also be given an in-game Genesis mini ship model! Each ship will have its own model and poster. In the future, the ship price will increase and the offer will not include Life Time Insurance or these extras.”

This – and all other pledge ships – will be made available for in-game credits in the final universe; the “flare” items will be available as well. This was not intended to give players an advantage over everybody else, but is meant to provide a different experience. If you’d like to get your own Genesis Starliner, it’s available in the pledge store.
