Dragon Age 4 Is On Schedule For Planned 2023 Release

February 18, 2022 by Matt Cook

The game is on track for a 2023 launch.

Dragon Age 4 development is reported to be going well and the game is on track for a 2023 release. That’s according to information revealed by games journalist Jeff Grubb. He reported that Bioware is hitting the development milestones needed to release the game next year. This is great news for Dragon Age fans who have been waiting for the next game in the series for years. Check out the tweet summarizing what Grubb said on his podcast below.

Jeff Grubb said on the latest episode of GrubbSnax, Dragon Age 4 is in very good shape, they're hitting their milestones. The game is on schedule, which is about 18 months out from today. He expects it to release maybe late 2023 at the earliest.

Dragon Age 4 has been in development hell for years. The project has been restarted multiple times and multiple directions have been taken for the game. When development originally began the game was supposed to have a multiplayer aspect similar to Anthem. Following the colossal failure of Anthem, EA scrapped the multiplayer completely. The massive success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order also prompted EA to invest more in big-budget single-player titles. The company had been moving away from the single-player formula prior to Fallen Order. However, Fallen Order was so successful that it is responsible for changing the focus of EA as a whole. Hence, Dragon Age 4 was restarted as a single-player-focused title.

Due to the long development and project restarts, not much is known about the current iteration of the game. BioWare has said the game will take place in Teninter Imperium, a continent that has not been explored in the Dragon Age universe so far. The studio has also confirmed that characters from previous games will be returning, although the company hasn’t said which characters fans can expect to see.

Assuming development continues to go well, fans can hopefully expect to get their hands on Dragon Age 4 by the end of next year. That should also mean that more is revealed about the game as this year progresses. Perhaps during one of the summer gaming events like E3 or at The Game Awards.
