Rumor: Rise of the Tomb Raider PlayStation 4 Release Date Outed

June 28, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Square Enix knows fans will not be happy with the news, but they have plans to deal with that too.

Believe it or not, YouTube channel The Know claims to know whenRise of the Tomb Raider is hitting PlayStation 4. Yes, not only are they confirming it for the console, they know when it’s coming out. You can subscribe to them on YouTube here.

Their source is an early document regarding Rise of the Tomb Raider that is at least older than E3 2015. That is because it has a tentative Q4 2015 release date for Xbox 360 and Xbox One and not the confirmed release date of November 10, 2015.

So, based on the document, Square Enix plans to pubish Rise of the Tomb Raider  on PlayStation 4 a year after the Xbox exclusivity clause, as was the case with other exclusives, such as Ryse Son of Rome and Dead Rising 3.  It is planned for release in Q4 2016, specifically, in November. They will be announcing it in the middle of 2016, probably on E3.

But that’s not all. Of course, Square Enix knows that console fans will be angry about the exclusivity clause. Interestingly, Square thinks it will be the PlayStation 4 owners that will be angry, and not Xbox owners. Square Enix plans to offer a discount to appease PlayStation 4 owners, down to $ 40.

Now, what this rumor does not address is if Square still plans to release Rise of the Tomb Raider on PlayStation 3, or for that matter, when it would come to PC.

Its predecessor, 2013’s Tomb Raider, was released on Windows and Mac, but it’s also possible, even likely, that the game is coming to Linux, particularly, SteamOS.
