In an interview with VG247, Bungie programmer Luke Timmins dropped a few details about the upcoming third expansion for Destiny, The Taken King.
When speaking about the setting of The Taken King, Timmins said that the expansion will take place in two new locations: Mars’ moon, Phobos, and Oryx’s spaceship, the Dreadnought.
“The first mission you’re going to play is called The Coming War, and it takes place on Phobos, which is Mars’ moon,” Timmins said. “You can actually see Phobos in the sky-box when you’re playing on Mars, and now you get to go there. That’s where the new campaign kicks off. But the new destination in The Taken King is the Dreadnought. The Taken King is this ancient Hive lord who’s come to this system on a mission of revenge, to get back at those guardians who defeated his son, Crota, and he’s brought with him a Taken army.
“This is his evil castle. It’s an ancient ship that’s filled with loot, and you’re going to have to find it, board it and stop him. That’s the new destination that people are really going to sink their teeth into in The Taken King this fall.”
Timmins also went into detail about a few of the new enemies players will be facing in the expansion. There’s the Taken Psion, which will be able to multiply itself; the Taken Knight, which can teleport and has a wall of flame; and the Taken Phalanx, which aggressively uses its shield to push players using a “radiating force.”
While Timmins didn’t go into detail about all three of the new subclasses, he did offer a few details on The Stormcaller, the Warlock’s new subclass that utilizes electricity.
“There are interesting talents that allow you to chain lightning between enemies and do additional damage, and there’s one right down the talent tree that allows you to do a horizontal dodge and teleport,” Timmins said. “You pop around the field. So you’re floating around the battlefield, barbecuing, teleporting in and out, and it just feels incredible.”
Finally, when asked about the duration of the exclusivity of new content for PlayStation platforms mentioned by VP of publisher & developer relations at PlayStation Adam Boyes, Timmins said, “I believe all that’s exclusive through September 2016.”
The Taken King will be launching on September 15.
