Fallout 4’s Dogmeat Is Immortal

June 16, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

The loss of a pet can really take its toll on you, so thanks for taking players’ feelings into consideration, Bethesda.

It’s probably safe to say that everyone adores the dog in Fallout 4. He first won people’s hearts in the game’s teaser trailer. It’s possible he also won more fans’ hearts just by playing fetch in the gameplay trailer.

There was a little back and forth about the dog’s actual name. Is it just Dog? Is it Pal? Or is it Dogmeat? He serves as the companion and assistant of the lone survivor of Vault 111, so the last option was likely. A tweet by Bethesda confirms that he is, in fact, Dogmeat. It also puts to rest one of many players’ fears: that Dogmeat will die.

Yes, the lovable canine companion who almost seems to seek out trouble cannot die. This doesn’t eliminate the possibility of Dogmeat taking damage and fainting. He could also still run away, maybe he’ll find some other survivor who’ll treat him better and won’t make him fetch wrenches for the entertainment of the crowd at a press conference. Being subjected to that will probably hurt a lot less than having your companion die on you.

During the Bethesda E3 press conference, they said “player freedom is still our absolute number one goal.” Looks like this time, they also took players’ feelings into consideration. At least players won’t have to cry over the permanent loss of a beloved companion, Dogmeat is now immortal.

Fallout 4 will be launched on November 10, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
