Devil’s Third Dev Video, Cover, Japan and Europe Release Dates Revealed

June 10, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The move in game engines for the Wii U exclusive has proven succesful.

A new Japanese dev video has suddenly revealed the current state of Wii U exclusive Devil’s Third, as release dates for Japan and the UK have been confirmed.

The new ten minute trailer is narrated by no less than Valhalla Studios head Tomonobu Itagaki. Although it is completely in Japanese, it mostly explains elements of the game we already know, including premise, single player story, and multiplayer features.

So, what’s new in the trailer? The first thing you will note are the highly improved graphics. It’s safe to say that there is a marked improvement in the visuals, bringing it more in line with what’s expected of a game. By all accounts, the move from the Relic engine to Unreal Engine 3 has been successful. . It also seems the change in engine has led to a slighlty less realistic style, similar to how Itagaki’s  Ninja Gaiden games had characters with quasi-realistic proportions

However, the most intriguing reveal is a new gameplay mechanic. We knew that the game would mostly be employing first person perspective, shifting into third person when your character takes cover, or uses melee weapons. Now, we know that your character can also slide through the floor, a la Vanquish, and will also shift camera perspective when you do so.

Nintendo of Europe has shared details from the dev diary via press release. In the story campaign, Ivan is a reformed mercenary looking to correct his mistakes. His enemies are his former teammates, a group of terrorists.

Multiplayer is actually based on an alternate future where Ivan does not succeed in his mission. As a citizen of this post-Kessler syndrome world, you can take the path of Diplomacy, making allegiances with other factions in the service of reclaiming the US, or Anarchy, acting as mercenaries to take out other players' bases.

You can customize your bases with items you get from battles. Of course, your base is fair game for other players too.Devil’s Third will be releasing in Japan on August 4, and in Europe on August 28. A US release date may be confirmed later today, but it will definitely also be this year. In the meantime, you can watch itagaki’s ten minute teaser above and the cover below.
