Lack of Payment From Games Distributor Desura Frustrates Developers

May 22, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Hospitalization of CEO, among other reasons, cited as cause for delay in payments.

Developers who have been using the digital distribution service Desura to sell copies of their games to consumers have raised public concerns over lack of payments being made by Desura to the developers.

These developers say that late payments and non-payments have been an issue since Second Life developer Linden Labs sold the distribution service to Bad Juju in November 2014.

A blog post was made by the head of developer relations at Bad Juju Lisa Morrison on Thursday, making public Bad Juju’s awareness of the issues raised by developers, the work being done to remedy the situation, and the reasons behind the problem in the first place, the most recent of which was the hospitalization of Bad Juju’s CEO Tony Novak.

“We want to reach out and let everyone know that those experiencing payment issues ARE being heard,” Morrison writes. “First and foremost we want to apologize that this has happened at all, one dev experiencing this is one too many. The issues have stemmed from a number of factors coming together in a bad way. The acquisition of the company last year has presented us with a number of very difficult issues to tackle, and we have been clearing those hurdles as efficiently as we are able. This has been compounded by the office being relocated, and by the current hospitalization of our CEO.”

Speaking directly to the effected developers, Morrison wanted to make clear that Desura was and is not attempting to refuse payment, but rather had a series of unfortunate circumstances happen in short succession, which led to a difficulty in following through on certain matters, such as developer payments.

“There are delays, and issues which need work to correct, but we will absolutely be paying all accounts due,” Morrison said. “You do matter, and we are taking this very seriously.”

The blog post also includes several methods of contacting Bad Juju or Morrison directly:

·         IRC: Irc.freenode.net #Desura

·         Email: [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected]

·         Twitter: @Desura, @LadyAijou
