Nintendo President Confirms They Can’t Meet Switch Demand

November 4, 2021 by Dennis Patrick

There is a major chip shortage, and it’s now affecting the Nintendo Switch.

The worldwide pandemic is something that affected all of us. It’s a historical moment we lived through and are still trying to reach an end. Meanwhile, the shutdown orders for various job industries had put a strain on those seeking goods. For instance, one of the major upticks in terms of consumer demands was video game consoles.

Since so many of us were stuck at home, we now had more time to ourselves, and entertainment was needed. As a result, several consumers wanted to jump on consoles. Although, there was a massive shortage of consoles available. This was in part due to the chip shortage. Because it’s so difficult to secure chips, several industries such as video game consoles are affected. While most reports were based on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms, we can also add in the Nintendo Switch.

We had seen previous reports that suggested the Nintendo Switch would not make its production goal for the fiscal year. The consensus was that Nintendo would be falling behind 20%. Now the Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed they can’t meet the demand. Speaking with Reuters, the Nintendo President has adjusted their production goal below current demands.

Much like most electronics, the blame here is chip shortages. There’s not enough to go around, and that’s the reason why we are seeing fewer units go out into the markets. But, unfortunately, there’s no end in sight. We very well could be dealing with the shortage of video game consoles well into 2022, if not longer.
