Destiny 2 Weapon and Trials Changes Detailed in Blog Post

November 18, 2021 by Carley Garcia

Will the community be happy? Only time will tell.

Just over three months away from the next big Destiny 2 expansion, the game is about to undergo some pretty hefty changes to abilities in a patch coming in mid-December. Detailed in a new blog post, Bungie is dropping this bombshell just ahead of its 30th anniversary, along with some additional changes to Trials of Osiris. The latter shouldn’t be surprising, as the dev team has been tweaking the PvP mode for some time. These changes will come just before the introduction is a new Loot Cave dungeon, and don’t forget–the Gjallarhorn rocket launcher, a fan-favorite from the original Destiny title, is coming back soon as well. (To be clear, the new This Week at Bungie post is eighteen pages long. That’s a lot of changes.)

As expected, Shatterdive is getting (another) nerf in the upcoming patch. Cooldown times on abilities will also be altered, as implied by a long list of weapon changes. Bungie explains that the goal of this patch is to shift Destiny 2 more towards gunplay and less towards abilities, as a common community complaint is that the game’s PvP is too heavy on ability spamming as opposed to good gunplay.

Linear fusion rifles will be getting a 10% damage boost in PvE, as will slug shotguns. The Vex Mythoclast is also getting nerfed, specifically in its aim assist and Full Overcharge trigger. Cryosthesia 77K is having its variable trigger removed, and its charged shot also won’t cost an entire magazine anymore. (Read the full gun changes here–they’re pretty detailed and numerous.)

Trials of Osiris will be getting changes to Capture Zone mode. The capture point will be indicated at the start of a round and will spawn in a neutral area to reduce bias. The map is being changed to Endless Vale, which offers a larger central space more accessible to both teams.

Destiny 2 is available to play on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, and PC. The game’s next expansion The Witch Queen drops on February 22, 2022.
