Rumor: Windows 10 Releasing July, Claims AMD CEO

April 20, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

AMD CEO Lisa Su may have been compelled to out the OS’s release to discuss their company’s strategy for it.

Windows 10 is releasing this July, or so claims AMD CEO Lisa Su.

Su may have inadvertently let the cat out of the bag when a JP Morgan representative asked her a question in their latest financial earnings call.

This was Su’s entire statement.

What we also are factoring in is, you know, with the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory build-up.

Of course, Su was well aware these earnings call meetings are public, but she may have felt the pressure to show AMD’s hand with regards to Windows 10. AMD’s Q1 revenue was down $ 1.03 billion. For AMD, this is a decline of 17 % from the last quarter, and a 25 % loss year on year.

For their end, Microsoft has yet to confirm the official launch date of their next major OS, but it is certainly one of the mostly highly anticipated releases in tech, and in gaming, for this year. They did confirm the release would be coming this summer, for over 190 countries.

A July release places it well after E3, which may or may not mean something for Windows gaming. Certainly, Microsoft will want to rally interest in upcoming Xbox One exclusive Halo 5: Guardians, and perhaps reveal a new exclusive, such as the next Gears of War or Crackdown.

However, between the Windows 10 release and E3, Microsoft also has the opportunity to tout gaming for Windows 10, and this includes connections between Windows 10 and Xbox One gaming. We already know about Fable Legends, and Microsoft can certainly announce more cross save/cross platform play games from existing titles, or completely new titles, to upsell getting the new OS on top of an Xbox One.

Are you hoping Microsoft makes some exciting announcements for Windows 10 gaming? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
