If This is The Future of PC Gaming, then PC Gaming is Dead

August 26, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

The future of PC gaming looks incredibly expensive with the Razer Blade.

Razer's "PC Gaming is not Dead" campaign has culminated in the announcement of the "World's First True Gaming Laptop," the Razer Blade.

The Razer Blade is a 17" gaming laptop featuring a full aluminum chassis, much like Apple's Macbook Pro, and is rigged with top of the line specs including an Intel Core i7 processor, an nVidia GT555M, and 8 gigs of RAM.

Priced at a not-so-affordable US$2799.99, the Razer Blade is arguably thin (0.88inches) for a 17" laptop, but weighs close to 7 pounds. It's lighter than other gaming laptops, but Razer still has a ways to go before they can produce something as portable as a Macbook. There's no word on how long the battery life lasts, but I'm willing to bet that it lasts longer than other gaming laptops–which admittedly isn't saying much.

Additionally, the keyboard comes with 10 macro keys, branded as the "multi-award winning, highly intuitive interface technology, the Switchblade User Interface." Fancy name, for macro keys.

At $2.8k, the only PC gamers who are going to get any enjoyment out of the Razer Blade are those with deep pockets.
