Destiny: Exotic Gear Upgrade Guide

This is a guide to figuring out if it’s worth your while to upgrade your exotic gear via Xur in Destiny.

We’ll share the explanation below, but for folks who want to get straight to the meat; it’s all in the numbers:

·         3 points INT lowers super cooldown by 1 second.

·         8 points DIS lowers grenade cooldown by 1 second.

·         7 points STR lowers melee cooldown by 1 second.

·         Finally, when you hit max stat 271, you will see no improvement and it is no longer worthwhile.

This is how each stat affects each cooldown timer, based on 0 stat and max stat, respectively:

0 stat –

·         INT: 5:30

·         DIS: 1:00

·         STR: 1:09

271 stat –

·         INT: 3:55 (assuming you aren't killing anything or stacking buffs from your gear)

·         DIS: 0:27

·         STR: 0:31

Now, using simple division, you should arrive to this calculation of how many points it takes to lower cooldown per second:

·         INT: 3 points

·         DIS: 8 points

·         STR: 7 points
