Bruce Wayne Exclusion From Batman: Arkham City Explained

August 23, 2011 by Gameranx Staff

Rocksteady has explained why Bruce Wayne won’t be included in Batman: Arkham City.

Rocksteady Studios has explained why Bruce Wayne, the actor who played the role of Batman in recent movies in the franchise, won't be included in Batman: Arkham City.

The developer's Dax Ginn said on Bruce's exclusion to the PlayStation Blog:

It’s a Batman game. He’s powerful and aspirational but you never lose sight of the fact that he is mortal. It’s such fertile ground and in Arkham City we will go deeper into the man behind the cowl by bringing in characters like Hugo Strange, who knows Batman’s true identity, and Talia al Ghul, who has a romantic relationship with him.

Ginn added:

Through those characters we see his vulnerable side but our aim has always been to make an action game, not a business simulator, and when you start thinking about what you would do while playing as Bruce Wayne, it doesn’t seem terribly exciting in comparison.

Batman: Akrham City is due for a release this October. Mr. Freeze was recently confirmed for the sequel to one of 2010's standout games, Batman: Akrham Asylum.
