Valve Looking to Implement Cross-Platform Play With CS: Global Offensive

August 23, 2011 by Gameranx Staff

Valve has confirmed they’re looking to include cross-platform play with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The PlayStation 3 and PC version of Portal 2 had seen the inclusion of cross-platform play, which saw great success. Valve now want to include cross-platform play with the recently announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The game, which is due for a release on consoles digitally, as well as PC, may not be the perfect choice of doing cross-platform solely due to it being a shooter. However, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell told PC Games it's in the plans of the company to implement the feature in the game:

We never want to create these ‘islands of players. You have to be sensitive to control differences, and make sure you’re accommodating that, but, you know, our view is players should be able to play as part of a community on whatever device they can.

You know, sometimes there are contractual, or other issues that make that hard, where somebody, a platform holder doesn’t want you to do that for whatever reason, but our preference is always to let customers play and be part of the larger community.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is currently scheduled for a release in the early stages of 2012. Gamers will be able to try it out during PAX this year.
