Fable Legends Will Be Free To Play, But Not The Way You Know It

February 26, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The worst you will experience in the game is having to wait for your character to come back to rotation.

Lionhead Studios has just confirmed that Fable Legends will be free to play.

Lionhead’s plans are to allow full download of the game possible, no strings attached. You will be able  to play a whole storyline of quests at launch, and episodic updates every few months, as well as continuous updates. You will be able to play four heroes or villains at one time, and these four characters will go on rotation.

Now here’s where the monetization comes in. If you have decided you are favoring a specific character, you can pay to unlock them permanently. You can also buy cosmetic items.

The worst you will experience in the game is having to wait for your character to come back to rotation. They will have all their XP and equipment intact. You don’t even have to pay with real money, as you can use currency earned in-game to unlock them.

With this system, the game will have no paywalls, energy bars, or recharge time. There is technically no limits to game time, although of course, if you pick up a favorite character, there will be a limit to playing him or her.

Lionhead also promises the game will have a very long beta to ensure that the game does not release with the bugs other games this generation have had.

Fable Legends will be released this year on Windows and Xbox One, with cross play, cross save, and cross platform multiplayer.

How does Fable Legends’ monetization system strike you? Would you prefer they just stuck with cosmetic items? Share your thoughts with us in the comments. You can sign up for the multiplayer beta here.
