In January, Sony auctioned off a 20th anniversary Playstation 4 console with the serial number '#00001' on it. The bidding went far higher than anyone expected, reaching an amount of $127,000. Sony has revealed that the bidder has failed to deliver the lofty amount of cash, and this has caused a massive delay in the unit's sale.
However, Sony knows how to keep a promise. The Japanese-based company will be donating the amount in full, regardless of what the console sells for in the future. This money will be given charity group 'Save the Children.' There's no word yet on whether or not Sony will actually release the console for purchase.
For the time being, the unit will rest at Sony's showroom in Ginza, Tokyo. The console will be available for viewing starting on February 21, 2015. Sony has been on top of the ball this console generation, so we're happy to see them giving back – especially in such large sums of cash.
